Ivy Garden of the Desert: Blood Is Love
|
Self-released CD EP
Blood Is Love is the second release by Italian stoner rock trio Ivy Garden of the Desert. This 33-minute-long package is now also out on Nasoni on vinyl and CD, but my copy is released by the band themselves and has different (quite simple) cover art. I reviewed their first Docile EP some time ago and it was pretty good stuff. The band plays rather heavy, groovy desert/stoner rock that also has some grunge influences. Once again, Colour Haze is the band that comes to mind a bit, but Ivy Garden of the Desert still is an original band musically. For some reason there are not a lot of guitar solos in there and the guitarist/singer focuses on intense riffing. The music is not overtly psychedelic, but more like quite straight-forward, crunchy basic rock with good attitude. Blood Is Love includes six tracks and the last two “1991” and “Glicine” stand out a bit, but this is quite even material. The first track “Viscera” and ”Weasel in Poulty Pen” also rock out very well. There are also some more experimental and progressive post metal tones, especially on the track ”A Golde Rod For This Virgin”. A very nice EP.
