V: The Year of Relinquishment

 The shortly named V is a metal band created by singer / guitarist / bassist Jupe Velin and you can hear at least the influence of Opeth and Katatonia in their melancholic, melodic and technical music. There are both clean, melodic and growling vocals in there, at times they go fast in the thrash/black/death metal style but the album also includes slower, atmospheric sections and acoustic guitar. The gloomy, personal lyrics deal for example with depression, loneliness, mental health problems and other nice stuff. For this kind of modern metal music this debut album sounds pretty good and doesn’t really stay behind its foreign models. People know how to make metal in Finland, I must say. I think that there will be quite a lot of listeners for this.
