Black Rainbows: Supermothafuzzalicious!!
|
Heavy Psych Sounds / Lonfellow Deeds (LDR020)
Black Rainbows, who will start their European tour with the almighty Farflung in a couple of weeks, released this third album of theirs last December, and it pretty much includes just the kind of stuff the title suggests! So they are operating somewhere in the stoner/desert/fuzz/heavy psych rock realm and I’m reminded of some of the old geezers like Black Sabbath, MC5, Blue Cheer and Stooges as well many more recent bands like Kyuss, Fu Manchu, QOTSA and Monster Magnet. I’m very pleased with the most psychedelic tracks like the space rock styled, tightly pounding and heavy “Mastermind”. Also the other tracks have some psychedelic space effects in addition to the traditional power trio which always works for me. What comes to the great and catchy stoner/desert rock tunes I could mention for example the opener ”Burn Your Nation”, the groovy and crunchy ”Feel the Beat” as well as the little more cosmic, headily buzzing ”Solar System”. The tracks that get closer to early 70’s hard rock or even rock ‘n’ roll don’t really work for me that well, but the band still does a good job with them too. This album was also released on three, different-coloured, highly limited vinyl editions with a bonus track so hurry up to the store now!
