Well this is a pretty interesting release… Funk Police is a band formed by French musicians who also play in other groups and on this album that was released last year they perform ten songs of a bit twisted, experimental, monotonic, hypnotic and psychedelic funk styled stuff. There’s also some dark post punk atmosphere. The album is only released on vinyl and as a download from Avant! Records’ Bandcamp site, where you can download the first track “Back Inside You” for free. This track is true psychedelic, wild and monotonic blasting in the funk/kraut spirit! ”Coco Dance” and ”Horsefag” follow similar paths as well. The longer ”Immigrant Pekin Mambo Love Song” is a bit more relaxed stuff but the short ”Now I Can Funk” that finishes off side A makes you puts your ass in motion again… ”Red Blood Black Boobs” is more like experimental post punk or noise rock than has anything to do with funk, and perhaps the same goes for “You Always Win”. “Sugar” somehow brings to mind Can and ”In the Same Fucking Song?” is a cross-breeding of kraut and noisy post punk. The album closer “Sorry Angel” adds some Suicide influences to the palette. This is wacky, rather raw and primitive but energetic album!
