Ivy Garden of the Desert: Docile EP
|
Nasoni Records (NASONI-111-2 CD)
Here is an EP by a new stoner/doom band from Italy. This 37-minute “EP” is of course pretty much as long as an album, but there are only four tracks on it. Inspired by for example the Desert Sessions releases, Kyuss, Monster Magnet, Nebula, Fu Manchu and Motorpsycho, Paul (bass), Andrew (drums) and Diego (guitar/vocals) have on this debut EP of theirs also stuffed in some grunge and experimental edge. The pretty atmospheric “Ivy” that even has some post rock tones begins the EP. Before the four-minute marker this instrumental track gets heavier and starts to rock in the familiar desert/stoner rock style. The over 11-minute-long “Enchanting Odyssey” has some good vocals too that bring to mind some grunge groups. A hypnotic and pretty good track. The disc’s shortest number is the acoustic ”Hang Glider” that has some percussion and cello. The last, long track “I” is again heavier stuff also including a bit of more experimental post metal touch but also atmospheric sections. This is a quite good and promising EP but on the basis of this alone the band doesn’t reach a place in my heart yet.
