Samsara Blues Experiment: Revelation & Mystery
|
World in Sound Records (wis-3012)
On their second album Berlin’s heavy stoner/doom/psych/blues bulldozer Samsara Blues Experiment have condensed their package and instead of the endless jams we’ve now got tighter arranged, great songs. The influence of Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix can be heard on the music but it has lots of other stuff as well. At times the going is pure classic rock, at times its heavy boogie/blues but there are also some progressive elements and a bit of jazz in the mix. The sound is very nice, analogue and thick and the guitars are playing the leading role although there are also pretty much vocals. The album includes a short intro and seven tracks ranging from two minutes to over 12 minutes in length.
”Flipside Apocalypse” is an interesting and groovy number that has both heavy riffing and a little lighter jamming. ”Hangin’ On The Wire” is tight stoner rocking that hits you in the head like a sledgehammer. “Into the Black” is at first slower, heavy and gloomy stuff but then they hit on the boogie gear. There are some more peaceful moments in “Thirsty Moon” that is somewhere in between Southern rock and Led Zeppelin and doesn’t really do it for me. “Outside Insight Blues” is an exciting, a little longer bluesy piece that starts to rock harder later on and has some killer solo guitar work. This one also has some jam attitude and the ending is almost jazz. The acoustic, beautiful ”Zwei Schatten in Schatten” is a short instrumental with some India vibes and after that the over 12-minute-long, heavy title track explodes on your face being one of my favorites on the album. This is excellent, psychedelic stuff! At some point I’m surprisingly reminded of Kingston Wall. This album sounds really good so just go and get it, you won’t be disappointed.
