Sendelica: Streamadelica, She Sighed As She Hit Rewind On The Dream Mangler Remote
RAIG (R052)

This amazing Welsh psych/space rock band continues their series of long album titles… And they have also kept the quality of their music very high. Some time before this instrumental full-length the band released a free-download EP ”Screaming And Streaming Into The Starlit Nite” on RAIG’s Accessory series, and among a couple of other songs that EP includes two versions of the title track that is now also included on this new CD as a definitive version. This beautiful, atmospheric and slow-paced track is one of the best on the album bringing to mind Hawkwind’s “Wind of Change” and including great saxophone and excellent solo guitar work that gets wilder towards the end. What a brilliant number! The album also has three shorter, spacey and experimental ambient pieces (”Song of the Seidr”, the celestial ”Carningli (Hill of Angels)” that also features Nik Turner on flute and ”Power of the Sea”). The other tracks are the bit Tribe of Cro styled ”Dream Mangler” with some dub influences, the bluesy, superb and psychedelic acid rock jam ”Spacehopper Blues” that seems to resurrect Jimi Hendrix from the dead and the over 25-minute-long trip “Day of the Locust” that after its peaceful beginning has lots of different stuff in it like wild, Acid Mothers Temple-like guitar terrorism and mad drum-pounding, a cosmic, programmed section and slower, heavy jamming with organ. In addition to the basic rock instruments the album includes saxophone, plenty of electronics and synthesizers, organ, strings and flute. The music is mainly improvised and at least very jam-like. I have really liked all the Sendelica releases I’ve heard, but this might just be the best of them all.

Usually a reviewer does not get the special editions of albums, but Sendelica’s guitarist Peter Bingham was friendly enough to send me one of the 100 copies that in addition to the CD also include a DVD and I must say that it’s hot stuff. ”Trillian Eight, A Darkly Modern Fairy Tale” is a very experimental, hallucinatory 30-minute-long short movie with cosmic soundtrack music. Excellent! Then comes an effective and spacey music video to the track ”Screaming And Streaming Into The Starlit Nite” and finally it’s time for a piece from Sendelica live gig. I warmly recommend getting this CD/DVD package for example directly from the band through their MySpace site for the price of £15, just the CD is yours for £10. And do not miss the forthcoming Sendelica cover 7” on Fruits de Mer Records!
