K11/Pietro Riparbelli & Philippe Petit: The Haunting Triptych
|
Boring Machines (BM 020)
The Haunting Triptych is the dark result of collaboration between Italian Pietro Ripabelli (K11) and French Philippe Petit where these artists create a gloomy, menacing and downright scary ambient soundscape using for example field recordings, electronics, turntables, voice, radio signals and treated acoustics. So the 45-minute-long CD is indeed divided in three parts that are ”Chapter 1: Residual Spookines”, ”Chapter 2: Shadow Creatures” and ”Chapter 3: Doppleganger Presence”. The music that is very atmospheric in a dark way would fit perfectly as a soundtrack to some diabolic, gloomy and psychedelic horror movie. The sonic landscape gets a bit more distorted in the middle and even goes towards noise but mainly still is very picturesque and laid-back, although very oppressing and occult. This CD might be able to produce some bad delusions and states of anxiety if listened to alone in the dark. So it’s a very interesting, hallucinatory and powerful piece of work… I don’t think I need to say anything else.
