Here we’ve got a marvelous album for all fans of Black Sabbath, Pentagram and Electric Wizard. Dwelling in the forests of Karlshamn, Sweden, on their debut The Graviators present 10 tracks’ worth of heavy/stoner rock/doom metal made in the spirit of the 70’s. The down-tuned guitars buzz in a nice way and the vocals are stylistically close to Bobby Liebling. Some of the songs like the opener ”Keep ’em Comin’” also bring to mind the doom boogie aspect of Trouble. ”Storm of Creation” will for sure cause some serious head banging live. The Pentagram vibes are perhaps at their strongest on the excellent, a bit more atmospheric track “Back to the Sabbath” and there is also a video for that one. The eight-minute-long “Juggernaut” includes lots of different material, “Shapes of Babylon” is closer to 70’s hard rock and Angel Witch. The longer “Mountain Man” is again true heavy doom in the vein of Electric Wizard and then we rock faster but still with a heavy hand during “Saturnus ‘84” that I also happened to spin at Roadburn. “She’s a Witch” is again quite close to Pentagram and a really good piece. “Roller” rocks a bit faster and the album is finished with the nine-minute-long “Planet Gone” that has both very slow going as well as speedier blasting. Great! I really like the sounds on this album and The Graviators also know how to write good and interesting enough songs. In addition, the solos are really cool at times. This band would surely fit in very well to Roadburn festival, for example, this is killer stuff.
