Bosch’s With You: Wired Promise to Be
RAIG (R045)

This magnificent album comes with a very sad fact: the leader and guitarist of this Russian post rock band Dima T. Pilot passed away after the recordings last year just under 30 years old. Luckily the album still got released, since it is a worthy testament to this brilliant musician who really had understanding for long arcs and creating exquisite atmospheres. Prior to this last album the band managed to put out three official CD’s, a double CD-R and a couple of EP’s that are all worth getting.

Also Wired Promise to Be is guitar-driven, instrumental, atmospheric, beautiful and mostly melancholic music that is at times quite psychedelic and often closer to ambient than rock. The album includes five long tracks that all are individually very successful. The album is started slowly with the melancholic and soft ”Caught Inside” that grows a bit heavier towards the end. Amazing. ”St. Michael’s Seed” is at first ambient soundscapes until it peacefully starts to move after a couple of minutes. Also this one has some excellent emotional charges. The 19-minute-long ”Hide-and-seek to the Four Winds” begins with some field recordings and after that we get several minutes of soft, floating echoed guitar. The bass and drums join in after about five minutes and later on there also comes some a bit heavier, distorted guitar. This is a really dreamy, emotional track that brings to mind GSY!BE, for example. The melodies are so beautiful! The over 22-minute-long “Metathesis” ends the album is a fine way and during this time the band has enough time to come up with many kinds of turns. Somewhere around the three-minute marker the track gets heavy for a while, but before six minutes have passed a long, quiet and serene section begins and it also has some piano played by the bass player. In the end the track gets more intense and heavier again.

Although Bosch’s With You of course has been influenced by many other post rock bands like Mogwai, GSY!BE, Explosions in the Sky etc., the group still always had their own, original sound that got stronger towards the end. It’s very sad that this is to remain their last album since the band definitely was one of the best in Russia. 100 copies of Wired Promise to Be come with a bonus live disc Live in Kharkiv but it (along with many other great albums) can also be downloaded for free from the RAIG web site.
