1234567890: Elvis
|
Rabbit Ilsn Records (002)
Funnily named 1234567890 is an experimental drums/guitar duo from Uusimaa, Finland. Elvis CD-R released in 2008 is apparently their first album and is probably sold-out by now, although Ikuisuus might have some copies left. This 49-minute-long disc features Johannes (drums) and Veikko (guitar) along with a few guests. The band’s basic idea is to record their jams into a c-cassette and loop, sample and manipulate these recordings afterwards. The end result is weird, often quite repetitive hullabaloo that often has quite an electronic feel because of the loops and sound manipulation. There are some fast break beats, experimental noise, really weird sounds and other strange stuff in there. At times I’m reminded of the sonic experiments by Faust, at times the noise-making of Boredoms. The guitar sound gets occasionally rather heavy, but sometimes the sound has been treated to sound something totally different. Especially the track “Noseguy” is more peaceful, drone-like ambient. Also the end of the last, long track “Your Pizza Is Ready” is tranquil floating, which is just fine after all the freaking out. Some of the other song titles include ”Dickface Is Alive!”, ”Kenji Iwatas Robot” (this one also includes some vocals) and ”Ultimate Warrior”. The Elvis CD-R is not that easy to listen to, but it sure has some interesting and even rewarding stuff on it. There was also a recent Elvis Remakes album that has other bands’ new versions of these tracks!
