Yesterday’s Thoughts: Let’s Take a Ride with…
Sound Effects Records (SERC 001)

There seems to be no shortage of 60’s psychedelic garage/punk crazed bands in Greece, and that’s just fine. Founded in 1996, Yesterday’s Thoughts is without a doubt one of the best, and I would really like to hear some more of their stuff. Let’s Take a Ride with… was originally released in 2004 and was their second album. Their latest came out in 2009. My copy seems to be a second pressing from 2006, and this album is also released in limited edition vinyl. The band’s main influences are from the mid 60’s US (The Seeds, The 13th Floor Elevators, Electric Prunes, The Sonics, Third Bardo etc.) and you can hear that in their sound that is formed with reverb, tremolo and fuzz guitars, Farfisa organ, drums, bass an very cool vocals. There is no useless shit invented after 1967 included on the album, so this is very puritan 60’s going in all aspects. Although there is plenty of wild garage punk spirit in there, this band also really knows how to play and make fine compositions and doesn’t just settle for playing two chords. The 15 tracks also include beautiful, melodic ballads and psychedelic trips. The 40-minute-long album has 15 songs on it so the average length is relatively short. I’ve got some difficulties in trying to find the highlights since all the tracks are so good. Still, a piece called ”Yesterday’s Thoughts” I guess is some of the most psychedelic stuff. A very interesting detail about the album is that the late, great The Seeds singer Sky Sunlight Saxon is the guest star on two of the tracks (”If I had Some Marijuana” and the really great ”Build Yourself an Aero Plane”) and he surely makes this wonderful album even more interesting with his presence. This band is absolutely worth checking out if you are into mid 60’s styled authentic garage psych.
