Seht: Dead Bees ((the((quiet)earth))suite))
|
PseudoArcana (PACD097)
Seht is an electronic, experimental ambient/drone project by New Zealand-based Stephen Clover that has been beaming floating soundscapes into the ether since the turn of the millennium. He’s been influenced by for example Terry Riley, Philip K. Dick (!), Faust, Eno and Harmonia. This latest Seht album has just two, massively long, very peaceful, quiet and minimalistic works. ”One Moment” starts off with a tiny, weird sound that goes on alone for a few minutes. Then it’s joined by more harmonic soundscapes and apparently some sounds of the waves. There is some growth later on and we get to a majestic, harmonic drone that starts to fade out after a while. This is a pretty nice way to spend over 36 minutes. ”A Dance; Four Movements” has a tad more action and at first also a bit of human voice, but this is still pretty spare stuff as well. There are some shorter, even melodic sounds at first and these are gradually hidden by white noise. Then the noise fades out and there is some softer drone that also fades out very slowly towards the end. This hour-long sonic web makes a rather nice listening experience but be careful while taking the CD out of the too tight cardboard cover if you’re as clumsy as I am.
