Aron: Djævlens horn. En electroakustisk messe
|
Orpheus Records (Orph 014)
This is the third solo album by ex-On Trial guitarist Morten Aron filled with his original, psychedelic horror folk. Like before, the album is only available on vinyl. He has composed and written all the ten tracks on the album by himself and besides him the album only features a female backing vocalist on one track. The lyrics are in Danish.
The album starts off with the short, peaceful and dark ”Den sorte ged”. The melancholic ”Djævlehorn” includes beautiful singing, acoustic guitar, slide, bass, keyboards and small-scale rhythm. Aron does go into rather psychedelic worlds from time to time… ”Hun er ikke nogot menneske” is a dark, slow and sad folk rock piece. Somehow bringing to mind High Tide, ”Edderkoppering” has for example backwards guitar, wah-wah guitar and acidic lead guitar work. Great stuff! Side A is finished with the beautiful instrumental called ”Drømmedagsprofet”.
B side’s first track ”Ud på landet” begins with a short, psychedelic and experimental sound collage after which Aron lets loose the West Coast vibes. It’s a pretty good number that also includes some piano and mind-altering effects. The pretty, down-beat, hypnotic and dreamy ”Är det her?” reminds me a bit of Velvet Underground and includes some tasty fuzz soloing in addition to organ, percussion and acoustic guitar. ”Djævlens horn” is slow, superb psych rocking with electric guitars, but it also has some acoustic guitar to give it some folky moods. The faster, hypnotic and even a bit punky acid rock track ”Kom ud i lyset” differs quite a lot from the rest of the stuff but I like it very much. The album finishes with the nice, acoustic folk instrumental ”Nattens stjermer”. This is another killer release from Aron and Orpheus Records, I must say. If you like imaginative, mystical and dark folk/psych rock and are into rare vinyl, this album is a must-have for you.
