Tigrova Mast: S/T
|
RAIG (R022)
Tigrova Mast is a Croatian band with a bass player (Gut), a drummer (Heart) and keyboard player (Brain, also in the band Seven That Spells). Part of the picture is that all of them are actually guitar players… This is their first album. The trio blast tightly through 18 short and fast tracks that have been influenced by noise, local folk music, punk, hard core, metal and psychedelia. The album is only a bit over 30 minutes in length, but the disc also includes same amount of bonus video material of their sweaty and energetic live performance that gives a good picture of how the band rages through their repertoire in a live context.
Tigrova Mast’s music is instrumental, experimental, rather original, weird, progressive, technical and usually very fast and often makes you smile. Some of the tracks also have some Oriental influences and samples. The distorted bass brings in a very heavy atmosphere to the music. The keyboards do the psychedelic side and partly also take care of the duties of a guitar. At times I’m reminded of the Finnish band Aavikko, although this is faster and heavier. A couple of tracks bring to mind Voi Vod, at times there is also some funkier stuff in there. This is a very tight and intensive package that has very few peaceful moments but I can handle this amount of Tigrova Mast’s ADHD music very well. They are already working on the next album so beware!
